Made in Brasil

It's been a bit quiet on this end but the sewing machine has been running!
I need some Christmas decorations for the next bazaar with the newcomers club in São Paulo. Not only boxes but also some fabric items just to bring some Holiday spirit to my display.

The designs for this mini quilt are from the quilt here below I made about 10 years ago while living in Singapore. I simply shrank the pattern and only used a few of them. And again the temperature is far from freezing.... ;)

'waiting for Santa'
Something nice to share? Yes! A Dutch baby boy is born here in SP and we are going to celebrate!

Nog iets leuks gebeurd? Ja!

Knit Cafe in São Paulo

Yes, there is a knit cafe in SP and it is so cool! As I told you last week, I bought a scarf for DD in Buenos Aires last week and I want to make another one for myself. When I started looking on the internet for a wool shop, I found this one: Novelaria, a trendy shop near Vila Madalena, a trendy area in SP. It only opened a few months ago but it feels like much longer.

There was a nice group of ladies chatting and learning how to knit or do crochet. I would have loved to join them but my Portuguese is too limited, I know already how to knit and crochet and DH was with me ;)

I bought some cotton and it was hard to choose a colour, there were so many to choose from! And you know what? It comes from Argentina, Buenos Aires! If I had known last week where to find this material I would have saved so much money! I paid more for the yarn than I paid for the knitted woolen scarf in BA... Brazil puts so much tax on imported goods, it is not fun anymore. But seeing this cafe with the beautiful colours and great ambiance, it is still worth it!

Will I knit something for you boys as well?

Recharged!

Back home full with wonderful impressions and many pictures of my trip to Buenos Aires, Colonias and Montevideo. Buenos Aires is the main city in Argentina, Colonias and Montevideo are located in Uruguay.

São Paulo is at the right top corner and the cities I visited are at the Rio Plata, at the bottom of this map. DH had to be there for business so I had all days to myself to explore. We flew from São Paulo to Buenos Aires and the first person I bumped into was this 'handsome' guy!

Buenos Aires is a wonderful city with an European flair:

Green!
Leaving Buenos Aires behind us we took the ferry boat to Colonias, a small old town in Uruguay, just across the Rio Plata.

After a few hours roaming the streets, we took a car to Montevideo, an almost 2 hour drive. Unfortunately no pictures of this trip through the beautiful countryside...

I did not see any quilts at the arts markets in the cities but I bought a nice knitted scarf I want to copy! I am fully recharged and ready to start new projects!

Fresh air

Bem vindo!
In São Paulo we live in an apartment on the 8th floor, the highest of this building. There is only one apartment on each floor, so when you step out of the elevator, you step right into my world. Full with memories of our nomad life with some quilts in between. Time to shake them out and get some fresh air!

The Japanese monk keeps guard

The kimono quilt I made together with her while living in Singapore. We shared the fabrics but the quilts were very different when they were finished. This was my first attempt to quilt by machine.

Batik Bintan
The Batik Star quilt was made for a quilt challenge in Singapore. It is game of 8, 6 and 5 point stars and if you look close, circles and squares are coming out. At that time I was living in Saigon, Vietnam, but was still in close contact with the girls of the ANZA quilt group in Singapore. I still miss their vibe but thanks to blogging I can still be inspired by their stories.

Antique piece
The third quilt on the ladder is given to me by my aunt who lives in Michigan. It's an antique one she bought a long time ago and thought I would like it. She brought it when she came to visit me in Vietnam. I love it! It is all hand pieced, quilted and repaired. And especially those repaired patches makes this quilt so touching.

Repair patch
Well, the dust is shaken off and the quilts are back in the little hallway.
DH needs to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentine, and Montevideo, Uruguay, for business. He will need to work all days but wants me to come along... YES! My two hairy monsters are going to stay at a dog boarding house with a garden, just outside São Paulo and I will be away for the next coming days. The physio taped my back, the doctor gave me painkillers just in case and I am going to get some fresh air and reload my batteries! See you later!

YES!
