Be inspired!

Thanks for the nice comments on my last posting, I thought it was going to be a boring post about brown cardboard... ;) I liked the tips to use the inside of cardboard for stamping on fabric!

This time my post is about something completely different
If you have followed me for some time, you might know that my family lives all over the place
my daughter lives in London and my son in NYC, my husband in Chile and I travel between Holland and Chile
This post is about my son Romke

Together with his girlfriend Romke has launched a Kickstarter project to raise funds to get his book about American photography published, a so called crowd funding project.
Everyone who supports him, gets something in return depending on the amount

Photography has always been his passion and through his blog 'Mossless he came into contact with other photographers whose work he showed on his blog with the story behind it.
This book is a collection of pictures about America who were shown on the internet only. The interesting thing about this book is that part of the proceeds will go to the artists as well if the book gets full funded through Kickstarter.

In this short film they explain more about their project

Romke and Grace have one more week to raise sufficient funds, otherwise their dream will fall apart.
If you are interested and like to share in this project please klick on the following link

  1. Choose one of the options you would like to receive in return
  2. Open an Kickstarter account so Romke will be able to contact you
  3. Only when the project is fully funded, your pledge will be paid through Amazon

Feel free to share this post with family and friends, the more the merrier!

Filling up empty spaces

Not only we need to spice up the apartment
P's office needs to be arranged a bit
He needs some shelving
preferably without showing the inside of the corrugated cardboard

The slots in the 2cm thick cardboard will keep the shelves in place
I cut all pieces a bit wider and took the inside away while keeping one side of the cardboard intact
Then I scored the outside and made a sharp fold and glued the cardboard down on top of the sides
Are you still with me? ;)

Listo!

Listo! After letting it dry for one night, P carried it with him to the office.
It hardly weighs anything however, it is very strong

Placed in his office and put to use immediately!

This is what is left behind at home, rubbish
Looks interesting, the inner work of this cardboard

Hilde

Sunday morning walk

This last Sunday we went for a hike uphill behind Pablo Neruda's house
We left a little early to be ahead of the crowd
We took a dry path and not the main road
this sign tells us that we had walked for only 649 meters 'as the crow flies'
but climbed for about 300 meters

It hasn't been raining for about 5 months and everything is dry and dusty
every now and then there is a water tap to the fill up our bottles

These plants reminds me of our time in Italy

By lack of trees names are written in these leaves

By road, many cyclist came pedalling up the hill and enjoyed the vista from the top at the end of the road. Unfortunately, there is always a smog hanging over the city

We continued our way up to finish at the top of the hill at this small church and
the statue of the Holy Virgin

For many the way up the hill is a true pilgrimage
Once up there everyone is quite and whispers, or is simply exhausted ;)

Next to the statue, in a corner, stands a iron rack with a few burning candles
the ground beneath is slippery

Pablo Neruda and liquid nitrogen

Pablo Neruda

Not too far from where we live, the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda
used to live in one of his three Chilean houses.
He named this house La Chascona (tangled-haired woman) for his wife Matilde
with whom he shared the house from 1955 until 1973. It is located at the bottom of the San Cristobal Hill and looks out over the Barrio Bellavista.

We went to see it this weekend and loved it from the moment we stepped inside.
I am not so familiar with his work but I loved the way he decorated the many different rooms
We were not allowed to take pictures inside but I couldn't resist this one ;))

I wonder who made the cushions, was it Matilde?

One of Pablo's many love poems

In the neighbourhood there are many graffiti paintings to spot, so after visiting the museum
 we walked around Bellavista

This little ice cream shop was too fun to pass
It is called Heladería Equilibrio and they make ice cream on the spot with liquid nitrogen
Check out this link to see how they make it, it is in Spanish

By adding liquid nitrogen (-328ºF) to cream in the blender, the cream turns quickly into ice cream.
It is fun to watch this proces, it looks like a witch's brew!

Heerlijk!
Yum! This ice cream tastes so good and its texture is very soft!

Cheers from Santiago,
Hilde

Last Friday I was walking down the street when I met this guy,
selling some Valentine flowers with a big smile

I was going to meet P for lunch at a tapas restaurant.
We were early so we could choose where to sit

I love those tiles! And the food is good too!

Chau chau,
Hilde

Vakken vullen!

My first week in Santiago is filled with finding my way around again, at the groceries, the local Home Depot, in the neighbourhood, and just looking around to see where I can find that one little thing... Every time again this takes me hours and hours.

Because we couldn't find a small side table I simply made one myself out of curated cardboard ;))

A Gecko as decoration

Because all our furniture has been moved to Holland we need to have some new decorations to cheer up the place. This Gecko is a first fun piece

A small side table for the many little things

This small side table is very simpel and if we don't like it anymore we just get rid of it without any pain

storage place above my table

While making the side table I thought about making this cabinet with pockets for my sewing corner

My new work table

I brought the House Building project with me from Holland because here I will have more time to work on this...I think...

When P comes home tonight, this will be there waiting for him!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Hilde

Above the clouds

Geniet maar even mee!

After a long flight through the night from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires, Argentina, the last part of this journey from BA to Santiago, Chile, is a feast for the eyes. Come and enjoy with me!

Eerst over de pampas van Argentinië,

First we cross the pampas of Argentina,

Daarna een prachtige witte wolkendeken

Then, a goose down blanket of clouds

They are stopped by the 'Cordillera de los Andes'

In the meantime I am watching the movie about weightlessness in space ;)

The stunning colours of the Andes where Argentina borders Chile

The first signs of activity, we are approaching Santiago and the captain has started the descend

If you look closely you can see some wineries below, in the valley ;))

The smog tels us that we are almost there!

Veilig geland!

Landed safely! I am back on Chilean soil and will send the next few months my posts from this part of the globe
